Hi, I’m Jeff Smith and I’m intensely passionate about hunting. I believe New Zealand is a true hunter's paradise, being blessed with Red deer, Tahr, Wapiti (Elk), Fallow deer, Whitetail deer and a bunch of other game species in a magnificent environment.

WildHunts has a simple purpose – to promote hunting and to encourage hunters in their activity.

This website brings articles, pics and video clips of hunting and related activities. Be sure to check out the unbiased and independent product reviews that I’ll be offering in the forum. I regard myself as an average Joe hunter, with average means. But when it comes to hunting I’ve learnt the hard way that it’s only worth owning above-average, quality equipment. Through my own (and others’) honest experience, I’ll offer opinions on gear and equipment that have helped me achieve more success with hunting on a limited budget.

WildHunts is also an interactive resource. The very popular forum provides opportunities for members to post their own stories, pics and information, along with reading what other hunters have to offer. The forum has a few simple rules:

1)      Postings must promote hunting and be encouraging to hunters

2)      Personal abuse will not be tolerated (resolve disputes in private please … this is a public website and hunters need to demonstrate strength in unity)

3)      Pics must be smaller than 90kb filesize (due to server restrictions)

Remember that hunters have different motivations and means of fulfilling their goals.  Some are purist trophy hunters, others want meat for the freezer, some use spotlights, others use indicator dogs, etc etc. WildHunts is open to all, as long as the following are met:

A)      Hunting must be free-range and fair-chase (eg. no hunting behind wire)

B)      Game management for the benefit of hunting and the environment is fully supported. However, dominance of a species or hunting area, to the point that fair-chase hunting is spoilt, is not acceptable

Whether you are an active hunter, an aspiring hunter, an overseas hunter or a keen fisherman, this site will take you to some of the most awesome country on earth.

With the formalities dispensed with, now it’s over to you to enjoy. I can only encourage you to get out hunting and I look forward to hearing your stories on WildHunts. Have fun in the hills!
